Alstroemeria

Alstroemeria is also known as the Peruvian lily or lily of the Incas. Whatever you call it the essence remains the same. It is a wonderful and astonishing flower that surprises everyone with its stunning and exotic shape. Therefore the fact that it is considered to be among the most popular flowers in the international market comes as no surprise.

Alstroemeria originates from South America and is immediately recognizable for its sizable flowers bearing brush strokes in their petals. This type of lilium flourishes mainly in the Peruvian Andes and blossoms from April to September. It was made known in the European market in the 1760s. At that time the Swedish botanologist baron Clas Alstroemer, student of the great Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus, spotted it in Spain where it was imported from South America. This discovery happened during one of his journey in South Europe to collect interesting flowers for his mentor and as a result the flower was named after the Swedish baron.

Alstroemeria stands out for its unusual beauty, it comes in many colors depending on its variety – white, orange, yellow, goldenrod, pink, dark and light purple – and belong to that kind of flowers which retain their freshness for a long time (from one week to ten days in a vase). The most impressive fact is that most varieties of this dazzling flower have no fragrance. Finally, alstroemeria is considered as a symbol of health, prosperity, good luck and friendship.

The alstroemeria that blossoms in our facilities in Kos under the most suitable weather and soil conditions is sent to our collaborators in perfect condition.
